Musician playing medieval citole

Gustav Näsman Olai is a Swedish musician and musicologist specialising in medieval music. He plays, among other things, the gittern, citole, bagpipes, shawms and sings.

With a background in traditional music, Gustav turned to medieval music at an early age and has been active as a musician since 2006. Over time, his interest in going directly to the sources and artistically exploring the music on a musicological basis also grew.

Gustav has a master's degree in musicology from Uppsala University and has studied at Medieval Music Besalù, where he now teaches playing medieval string instruments.

Ensemble Mediata

The word Mediata comes from a medieval ornament where the tone between two notes is used as a “mediator.” In the same way, Ensemble Mediata wants to be a mediator between medieval music creators and today's audience.
